Overview

Is Sumiyati Going to Hell? is a poignant documentary-style drama that pulls back the curtain on the hidden lives of domestic workers in Saudi Arabia. The film is narrated through the eyes of a seven-year-old child who observes the daily struggles of her nanny, Sumiyati — an Indonesian domestic worker navigating relentless prejudice, emotional cruelty, and exploitation at the hands of the family she serves. By filtering an adult story of injustice through a child's innocent perspective, the film achieves a disarming emotional power, raising urgent questions about migrant labor rights, human dignity, and the moral blindness that makes systemic abuse possible in private domestic spaces.
