Overview

Hair: The Story of Grass is a deliriously satirical film that dismantles cultural attitudes toward beauty and physical appearance with an exhaustive and darkly comic eye. At its center is a put-upon caretaker whose social standing and prospects are dictated — almost literally — by hair, alongside her intellectually challenged ward whose own position in society is similarly determined by outward appearance. The film uses its absurdist premise to mount a biting critique of beauty standards and the ways they shape power, opportunity, and human dignity in ways that are rarely acknowledged.
