Overview

Perishable Idol is a poetic documentary set on Failaka Island off the coast of Kuwait — known in antiquity as Ikaros — left deserted in the wake of the Gulf War. Decades later, nature has reclaimed the ruins, animals roam freely through what was once a living community, and an oracle from the past seems to stir. At the center of the film is Hassan, a native son of Failaka who had lost all memory of the island's existence until it called him back. The film meditates on memory, belonging, and the uncanny pull of place, exploring a landscape where the lineages of past and future converge in hauntingly beautiful silence.
