Overview

Number One is a Moroccan comedy that tackles gender equality with sharp satire and playful absurdism. Aziz, an intensely macho Moroccan man proud of his traditional views, is transformed overnight into a passionate feminist activist after his wife casts a spell on him. The film uses this comedic premise to deliver pointed social commentary on entrenched gender roles and masculinity in Moroccan society, wrapping a serious cultural critique in a crowd-pleasing package. Funny, irreverent, and subversive, Number One uses magical realism to ask whether real change can come from within — or only from a well-placed curse.
