Overview
Mamat is an Algerian drama that tells the inspiring story of a simple woman who becomes an unlikely symbol of solidarity and wisdom in her village. A childless widow, Mamat has devoted her life to her community — attending births, tending to the sick, and offering comfort without ever asking for anything in return. When she realises her illiteracy prevents her from reading a medical prescription, putting lives at risk, she makes a bold decision: at over sixty years old, she will learn to read and write, enlisting the help of the village's young schoolteacher Salima. As Mamat begins writing her life story, Salima submits the manuscript to a national literary competition, where it wins the grand prize. Mamat uses the winnings to fund a new well that saves her drought-stricken village — proving that it is never too late to change one's destiny.
