Smile, and the World Will Smile Back is a short documentary film produced by the al-Haddad family of Hebron in collaboration with photographer Ehab Tarabieh and filmmaker Yoav Gross, both volunteers with B'Tselem's camera project. Selected for the short film competition at the Berlinale International Film Festival, the film captures a single winter night during which Israeli soldiers conduct a routine search of the al-Haddad home. Siblings Diaa and Shatha al-Haddad pick up the family video camera and record events as they unfold, documenting a tense standoff in which soldiers demand Diaa stop smiling before they will leave.
