Overview
Overcast is an Algerian drama that confronts toxic masculinity and control head-on. When Diab returns to his village with his new wife, he goes to extreme lengths to hide her from the community — forbidding her from any social contact and keeping her virtually isolated within their home. As time passes, an unforeseen emergency forces Diab to turn to his neighbors for help, cracking the armor of his rigid worldview. The film uses this moment of vulnerability to make Diab — and the audience — question the extreme beliefs about manhood and ownership that have governed his actions, and what it truly means to be a man.
