Fruits of Meditation is an Arabic video art piece by artist Sumayah, in which she attempts to preserve and make sense of an enigmatic daily ritual practiced by her father. Each morning, he would close his eyes, enunciate the names of different fruits — guava, orange, pomegranate, kiwi, apple — while performing deliberate squeezing motions, using the exercise as a form of disconnection from the outside world. The work unfolds across two parallel videos: the left-hand screen depicts the father in deep meditative communion with fruit and the act of selecting it; the right-hand screen shows Sumayah attempting to replicate the ritual herself, uncertain of its full meaning but drawn to its quiet power. An immersive ambient soundtrack ties the two streams together, producing a tender and poetic meditation on memory, inheritance, and the rituals that bind generations.
