Bled Music is a landmark Algerian musical television program that aired on ENTV between 1991 and 1992, directed by Aziz Smati and hosted by Kamel Dynamite, Farid Rockeur, and Samia Benkherroubi. The show became a cultural flashpoint in Algerian music, launching the careers of artists including Chaba Fadela, Cheb Sahraoui, Cheb Anouar, and Mohamed Lamine through a fan-voted video ranking system delivered by mail. Broadcasting during Algeria's turbulent descent into what became known as the Black Decade, Bled Music continued to air even as fundamentalist groups threatened anyone involved with music. On February 14, 1994, director Aziz Smati was shot in both legs by a young extremist — an act of violence that ultimately brought the pioneering show to an end.
