Overview
Songs of Adam is a haunting Iraqi drama set in 1946 amid the oases and sandstorms of rural Iraq. When young Adam is ordered by his strict father to witness the ritual washing of his grandfather's corpse, the experience leaves a permanent mark on his soul — he declares he never wants to grow up, and from that moment, he literally stops aging. As years pass and those around him grow old, Adam remains a child in an adult world. The villagers come to regard him as cursed; his aging brother pushes for him to be institutionalized; but his cousin Iman and his lifelong friend Anki the shepherd see his condition as a gift — a preserved purity and innocence the world has long forgotten. A beautifully poetic film about time, innocence, and the stories we tell ourselves.
