Overview
Al-Zoliya (The Carpet) is a Kuwaiti historical drama set in the 1950s, at the transformative moment when oil extraction began reshaping the country's identity and economy. Hamoud is a modest worker in a carpet warehouse who witnesses the inauguration of Kuwait's first gas station — an event whose carpets are subsequently stolen by some of his coworkers. Tempted by their example, Hamoud takes one carpet for himself, a seemingly small act of opportunism that sets off a chain of consequences neither he nor his family could have anticipated. With period authenticity and careful human drama, Al-Zoliya explores how a single moment of moral weakness can alter the course of a life and cast long shadows over an entire family.
