Overview

The Prisoner is an Egyptian social drama centered on Samar, a woman caught in a suffocating existence — unemployed husband Ghattas, an abusive mother-in-law, and a household that offers no refuge. When her employer offers her additional work for better pay, her husband interprets it as betrayal and accuses her of infidelity. Meanwhile, her boss fires her when she refuses his advances. Trapped between domestic oppression and workplace exploitation, Samar's story is a powerful examination of the invisible prisons built around Egyptian women by patriarchy, poverty, and social judgment.
