Overview

A Small Dream is an Emirati short film following Maitha, a young woman in the conservative society of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, who harbors a seemingly modest wish: to swim freely in the sea she visits every day. Yet the simplicity of her dream belies the weight of the obstacles she faces — social expectations tied to her veil, an ever-present awareness of her gender in public spaces, and above all, the fear of judgment that holds her back more than any external barrier. The film is a tender, poetic portrait of personal longing in tension with communal constraint.
