Egyptian writer and journalist. She was born in Cairo in 1937 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1958. She is a student of Ali Amin and Mustafa Amin. She began her journalistic work in (Akhbar Al-Youm) in the period (1958-1964), during which she served as head of the women’s section and then worked in (Akhir Sa’a) magazine. She moved to (Al-Ahram Newspaper) in the mid-sixties and remained there until she was appointed in 1993 as editor-in-chief of (Nisf Al-Dunya) magazine, the first women’s magazine published by Al-Ahram Foundation. She also worked in several administrative positions, including a member of the Al-Ahram General Assembly, a member of the Journalists Syndicate Council, a member of the Writers’ Association, an expert at the World Bank in Washington, a member of the Writers’ Union, and a member of the Audio Production Planning Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Radio and Television Union. She has creative production in stories, articles, and investigations. She is a visual artist who has held several exhibitions in Egypt and abroad, in addition to a large number of articles published in various newspapers and magazines. One of her most famous works that were turned into dramatic works is the series (He and She), starring the stars (Ahmed Zaki) and (Souad Hosni) and directed by (Yahya Al-Alami). In addition to her journalistic articles, she has a number of books, including: (Permissible Speech, In the Open Air, A Woman for All Ages, Silent Speech, I Die and Understand). She married the late visual artist Mounir Kanaan and has one son from her marriage.
