Okasha Touta, born on June 1, 1943 in Mostaganem, Algeria, is an Algerian actor, director, and screenwriter. After training at the IFC from 1968 to 1970, Akasha Toita worked as an assistant and actor before directing two short films: "Classe Normale", then "Rue Tartarin". “Rue Tartarin,” released at Cannes in 1980, already focuses on the theme of “sacrifices,” his first feature film and also his most striking. In the poor neighborhood of Nanterre on the outskirts of Paris, “Les Sacrifices” shows a lesser-known side of the Algerian War: the bloody score-settling between the “frontists” of the National Liberation Front and the “missalists” of the National Democratic Movement. He won the Georges Sadoul Prize in 1982 and the Special Jury Prize and the Audience Prize at the 82nd Orleans Film Days and at the 1982 Venice Film Festival. Following the film “Le Rescapé” (1986), which is still in the heart of the war but this time in Algeria, “Le Cri des Hommes” presents the questions of two police friends, one Algerian and the other Italian, at a time when the army took control of the police services and the violence of repression against independence activists increased. Controversially, "Le Cri des Hommes" had to wait until 1999 to be released in theaters. Since then, Okasha Touita has directed two medium-length films and written two screenplays: “L'Afghan” in 2000 and “L'Affaire Maillot” in 2001. This is in addition to his film adaptation of “Le Fleuve” by Rachid Mimouni. Which he had long hoped to bring to the screen.
