Mohammed Ali Ahmed

Muhammad Ali Ahmed was born on April 8, 1914. The rare poet shone with a group of the stars of this time and a large number of singers, led by Ahmed Ramy, Saleh Gawdat, Mustafa Abdel Rahman, Ahmed Al Samra, Mamoun El Shenawy, Abdel Fattah Mustafa, and Bayram El Tounsi, and he sang songs composed by dozens of male and female singers. He worked in Cairo for several years in the “Traffic Registry” until he was transferred to be appointed General Secretary. The Supreme Council for the Welfare of Arts and Literature, which was later called the Supreme Council for Culture. The Council was headed at that time by Youssef Al-Sibai, who was a personal friend and was also credited with appointing him to this position, where he continued to work throughout his life. The first person to predict his poetic future was the great poet Ali Al-Jarim, who was his student during secondary school. Poetry was the backbone and life of our author, Muhammad Ali Ahmed, as he wrote with intense romanticism. He is an Egyptian lyric poet. He was an officer in the traffic police. He was one of those who dealt with Abdel Halim Hafez at the beginning of his career. In 1954, he wrote a song for him, “Ala Qadd al-Shouq”, the beginning of which was said to have been written by its composer Kamal al-Taweel. The song achieved widespread fame and contributed to the spread of Abdel Halim. The following year, Abdel Halim re-sang the song “Ala Qad Al-Shouq” in the film Lahn Al-Wafa. All of Abdel Halim’s songs in the film were written by Muhammad Ali Ahmed, with the exception of the song “Come, I Tell You,” written by Fathi Qawra. Mohamed Ali Ahmed also composed other songs for Abdel Halim, such as “Maybe Poem,” “A Day We Were Comfortable,” and “The Spring Has Passed.” But for an unknown reason, Abdel Halim’s cooperation with this poet stopped, despite the continued success of Abdel Halim’s artistic career. He also wrote the song “If I Forget You, I Think of You,” which was sung by Hoda Sultan, as well as the songs “Ya Rayheen Al-Ghuriya,” and “Between Shatin and Mayh,” which were sung by Muhammad Qandil. Our poet fell ill and felt pain in his throat. He was presented to the doctors and his illness became severe. In Maadi Hospital, the illness was diagnosed as lung cancer. He died in his home at a moment when the entire family was present. Muhammad Ali Ahmed passed away, leaving his words immortal in the hearts of generations of lovers... leaving a great legacy of songs. He left our world on March 1, 1977, the same month in which Abdel Halim Hafez died.
