
An Egyptian journalist and writer, he was born in Kafr al-Nahhal, Zagazig, Sharkia Governorate, to a father who worked as a railway engineer. He moved a lot. He moved between several schools in the regions and Cairo to enter law school in the late 1940s, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in law in 1953 and working as a lawyer for some time. He then left the law and worked as a press editor for Tahrir magazine. He was the first Egyptian journalist to conduct an investigation into slums. He later moved to the radio magazine (Radio and Television) and rose there from editor. To an editor-in-chief who even headed its board of directors, witnessing great development and a boom in distribution at his hands. He loved reading from a young age, so much so that during his studies at the Faculty of Law, he wrote short stories and a one-act play and published the University News magazine. He began writing novels in the sixties of the twentieth century. He was influenced by the literature of Naguib Mahfouz and followed in his footsteps. He was interested in the Egyptian neighborhood and wrote many novels about it, some of which were turned into film series and films, such as (Al-Mawardi Coffee, Al-Barakah, Derb Ibn Barquq, Atfa Khoukha, Ayyam Al-Munira, Al-Ma’adiya, Jamila Bouhired, Farat Al-Rumman, Khan Al-Qandil). He was an advisor to the Minister of Culture He received the State Appreciation Award He died on January 23, 2010.
