Mariam Al-Ghamdi

A Saudi actress, broadcaster, director, and writer. She is the first Saudi woman to stand on stage, the first to work in acting, and the first Saudi female broadcaster to do so on the radio, which she worked on as a child, in 1962. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in English literature from King Abdulaziz University in 1989. She is the first Saudi woman to own an institution for the production and distribution of radio and television works. She was one of the first to read news bulletins when the Saudi Al-Ekhbariya channel was launched and the first woman to read the news bulletin on Riyadh Radio. She is also the first Saudi woman to write scripts for television works since 1983. She also worked as an administrator in girls’ education as a teacher in public schools. Her participation in controversial dramatic artistic works caused her to be attacked and threatened . She was appointed, along with her colleague Dr. Hanan Al-Ahmad, Kawthar Al-Arbash, as the first three women members on the Board of Directors of the Culture and Arts Society, for the first time in the history of the Society.
