
One of the pioneers of theatrical directing in Egypt and the Arab world, Hussein Gomaa held many important positions in the Ministry of Culture and the Artistic House of Theater. He also worked as a professor of acting and directing at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, and a professor in the Theater Department at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alexandria. Among his directorial works are a variety of important theatrical performances starring a group of major stars, including the operetta The Good Ten and the operetta Scheherazade. The late director also contributed to the design and implementation of dozens of theatrical shows in Egypt and the Arab world, including opera. Othello at Qaibtay Castle, which was held as part of the activities of the Alexandria Festival in 1996, and the Summer Theater Project at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. The late man received many awards and honors in recognition of his great career and his unlimited giving to Egyptian and Arab theatre, including a special honor at the Theatrical Taste Festival in Alexandria in 2012. The last award he received was a special honor from the “Season of Independent Arts,” which was held at the Hanager Theater last February. He died on March 5. 2014 at the age of 89 years.
