Ahmed Samy

Egyptian actor and singer, born in Cairo in 1929, graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Electrical Department. He began singing in 1961 on the Egyptian radio by imitating the songs of Mohamed Abdel Wahab through the amateur station, and the first salary he received from the radio was thirty pounds. He studied music and studied under Fouad Al Dhaheri, Ibrahim Hajjaj, Abdel Halim Nouira, and Muhammad Al Qasabji. A melody by Ahmed Sami, major composers including Baligh Hamdi, Abdel Azim Muhammad, and Muhammad Al-Muji. He was known for his tall stature, so he was called the tallest singer in Egypt. His singing credits exceeded 350 songs, including: (Washk Halo Ali, Whose Girl Is This Sweetheart, Asmar, Kahil Al-Ayn, A Long Way, O People of Our Country, O Bright Eyes, O Love, Why This Injustice, The Month of Generosity, O Ramadan, The Breeze of Longing, Flowers of the Orchards, Salma, O Salama, and O Bright Eid for the Homelands). He presented two shows to the theater: (The Great Night) directed by Fouad Al-Jazairli and (Rawd Al-Faraj) directed by Hussein Kamal, and he presented one film to the cinema, which is (The Thief of the Paper) directed by Ali Reda. He stayed away from the artistic community completely since the seventies of the last century due to the neglect he was surrounded by by the media, and he remained that way until he died at the age of 73 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Shubra in 2005.
